Taraba State Governor Refuses to Pay Eight Months Salaries and Pension Entitlements
The workers, under the aegis of Joint Public Service Negotiating Council, would also be protesting against the non-implementation of annual increments and promotions in the state and local government workforce.
In a Notice of Protest signed by Messrs Tukur Taji and Yieldet Bigwan, the joint council directed workers to converge on the state secretariat in Jalingo on Thursday by 7a.m. for the protest.
The council is also demanding removal of Starter Point Consultants as Salary Consultants to the state government on ground of gross incompetence in handling salary issues of the state.
It stressed that the removal of the consultants had become imperative “considering the intractable problems and sufferings it had brought upon workers in the state’’, stressing that one year was too much for a test.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Sylvanus Giwa, appealed to the workers to engage the state government in dialogue to resolve the issues at stake.
Giwa said said the problem on ground was not peculiar to the state, adding that the governor deserved a pat on the back for paying salaries of workers, as at when due, unlike many other states in the country.
He said, “I appeal to the workers to suspend the proposed protest and embrace dialogue with the government.
“The doors of the government are wide open. Besides, the governor deserves a pat on the back for paying salaries as at when due unlike many states in the country. Confrontation will not solve any problem.”
