Govt Returns 1067 Plots Of Land To Oba Community in Anambra
State government has handed back one thousand and sixty-seven compensatory plots of land to Oba Community in Idemili South council area.
The handover ceremony was performed at the Government House, Awka by the Commissioner for Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Sir Okey Moka, onbehalf of Governor Willie Obiano.
The defunct Oba Airport land given back to the community is twenty percent of the entire portion acquired by the State government, about forty years ago.
Speaking to the ABS shortly after the ceremony, the Commissioner for Lands, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Sir Okey Moka, said that Oba Community, who are the original land owners, have been demanding the release of their compensatory plot to facilitate development in the area, for which, he said, the Governor Obiano-led administration deemed fit to wade into.
Sir Moka, who adjudged the process as smooth, judging from the level of acceptance by representatives of the community, as well as State government representatives, called on the land owners to use the land to bring peace and progress to the community, as well as co-operate with any potential developer on the land in question.
Prince Nuel Ezenwa who spoke on behalf of the Traditional Ruler of Oba, Igwe Peter Ezenwa, described government efforts on the matter as a move in the right direction, saying that having suffered over the years, as a result of abandonment, the community is ready to embrace peace, adding that alot still needs to be done, including giving them the remaining ten percent of the compensatory plots.
The Chairman of the defunct, Oba Airport Project, Ichie Boniface Onyeka, stressed that government should show them the boundary of the compensatory plots, beyond what is contained on the survey papers, assuring that they will not fight over the sharing of the land, because they are seriously interested in entrenching lasting peace.
Signing of the acknowledgement papers, as well as hand over of the agreed survey papers was highpoint on the event graced by elders and youth representatives from the community.
