The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Kaduna Polytechnic chapter on Wednesday suspended it’s seven weeks strike.
A statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the union, Mr. Abbas Muhammad said the decision to suspend the strike was reached after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the management of the institution and the payment of some outstanding allowances that were diverted by the new Rector, Prof. Idris Bugaje.
He noted that after the payment, the union at an emergency congress held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, called off the strike.
The statement quoted the Chairman of the union, Dr. Aliyu Hassan as saying that the strike was suspended to give the Rector the benefit of doubt to solve the lingering problems of the polytechnic.
He, however, said the suspension was for a period of six months after which the union would reassess the MoU reached with the management and decide on the next line of action.
He commended all those who made the strike a success, especially the media, who he said served as a morale booster for members and source of enlightenment.
He called on the management to ensure full compliance with all agreements reached for continuous industrial peace on the institution.
