Why We'll Assemble a Crack Squad Against Algeria - Super Eagles Coach
While speaking in an exclusive interview with The Independent on Sunday, Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, said that the team that will face Algeria on the final-day 2018 World Cup qualifier on November 10, would be a crack one, as he's set to try out some fringe players.
Rohr, who spoke through the team’s media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, said given that a fresh list would not be released for the friendly match against Argentina, there was the need to get the list right even from the match against Algeria.
He said; “The coach has assured that the list for the Algeria match will be out this week. He has also assured that we are going to be timely in order to prepare well."
Speaking on whether the same set of players invited for the Algeria match will prosecute the friendly encounter against Argentina and what the squad would look like, Ibitoye said:
“We have just four days after the Algeria match to play Argentina, so there is no need for a fresh list. That is why it will be a very strong list that will cater for the two matches. People have been asking whether there will be more home base players.
“But we have two already in the team and I think it is enough; home base players have a lot of opportunities like CHAN to prove themselves. Like I said, we are playing Argentina immediately after the Algeria match, so we are going for the best,” he said.
The match against Algeria holds nothing for both countries as Nigeria had already bagged the sole ticket in the CAF Group B of the qualifiers while Algeria are merely playing for pride.
