Abia governor mourns as Ariaria market leader passes away
Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia State, has been saddened to hear of the passing of Emeka Igara, chairman of the Ariaria International Market in Aba, on Friday.
At the age of 74, Igara passed away in Aba.
Onyebuchi Ememanka, the governor’s chief press secretary, issued a statement Saturday expressing the governor’s feelings.
The governor expressed shock at the news of Igara’s death, citing that Igara had attended the market on Friday for the 2023 market opening prayer session.
But at the prayer meeting, he began to show signs of illness and was taken by his two sons to a local hospital.
However, the governor wasn’t informed of the death of Ariaria International Market Chairman Igara until hours later, when one of his sons, Samuel Igara, contacted him.
“The Abia government sends our condolences to members of the Igara family, executives and traders of Ariaria International Market and all friends and associates of the Late Igara.
“We pray the Almighty God to grant his soul eternal rest,” he said.
