Chimaroke Nnamani reacts to PDP suspension

A senator from Enugu, Chimaroke Nnamani, has expressed shock and amazement over his suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP had announced his suspension for “anti-party activities” the night before, and he made this statement on Saturday morning.

According to NewsXtra, the suspension of Nnamani and seven other members from Ekiti State is effective immediately.

PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) claimed it made the call “after a very extensive review and consideration of the party’s affairs in the country.”

The legislator claimed that his right to a fair hearing was breached, making the suspension unfair.

He claimed he had been in the dark about the petition against him or the rationale for the PDP NWC’s decision to expel him from the party.

“I was also not invited to any meeting, proceeding, or hearing of the NWC of the party where my supposed offence(s) was/were discussed,” he added.

“I was, therefore, not afforded the opportunity to make representations on my behalf at any meeting where the proposal and decision to suspend me from the party was made.

“My right to fair hearing was consequently violated against the clear provisions of the constitution of the party, especially in disciplinary proceedings. More importantly, the superior constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.”

On the other hand, Nnamani, a former governor of Enugu State, has assured his constituents that his political career is robust and secure.

He thanked his voters and backers for their faith in him and vowed to see the campaign through to what he hoped would be a successful end.

Additionally, he promised to maintain the necessary leadership to ensure the people receive the benefits of democracy.

Having openly begun campaigning for the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, the senator for Enugu East, was suspended after receiving criticism from PDP sympathisers.

Initially, he was selected to serve as a member of the APC presidential campaign council; however, this decision was later reversed. Never once did anything to suggest they supported or endorsed Atiku.

However, per the Electoral Act, his suspension will not affect his ability to run for reelection to the Senate.
