Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, stunned many people when he defeated his counterpart in the All Progressives Congress, and former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, to win the presidential election conducted in Lagos State on Saturday.
In the 20 local government areas making up the state, Obi won in some local governments that many had considered major strongholds for the APC in previous elections.
Polling 575,524 votes in total, Obi cleared votes in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Amuwo-Odofin, Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Somolu, Ojo and Alimosho
While Tinubu garnered 573,001 votes from Agege, Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikorodu, Mushin, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, and Surulere.
Despite winning two more local governments in the state than the LP candidate, Tinubu still lost the election to Obi on the number of votes won by 2,523 votes.
What’s more striking is that Obi dusted Tinubu in his Ikeja Local Government Area where he voted, and also floored him in Eti-Osa Local Government Area where he resides and built a seeming political fortress in Ikoyi.
