Former Osun Governor Gboyega Oyetola Emerges As Strong Contender For APC National Secretary Position
Recent developments indicate a fierce competition for the position of National Secretary in the All Progressives Congress (APC) to replace Senator Iyiola Omisore.
The main contenders for the role are the former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, and Ajibola Basiru, the spokesperson for the ninth Senate.
Notably, Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore resigned from their respective positions as National Chairman and National Secretary of the party last week.
On Friday, Gboyega Oyetola paid a visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Despite President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the villa, attending the graduation of Senior Course 45 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Kaduna State, Vice President Kashim Shettima received the former Osun State governor.
Following his presence at the Aso Villa mosque, Gboyega Oyetola held a closed-door meeting with the Vice President.
Initially hesitant due to his governorship ambition in 2026, sources within the presidency revealed that he was ultimately persuaded to consider the offer.
Interestingly, news has emerged that Tinubu and APC governors have already agreed on the former Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, as the replacement for Abdullahi Adamu as the APC national chairman.
