FG ‘baby steps’ in tackling insecurity, banditry regrettable – Bishop Ezeofor

 Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt Rev Samuel Ezeofor has charged Federal Government to be proactive in making policies capable of improve the living standards of the people.




The Bishop gave the advice in his charge during the first session of the seventh synod of Aguata Diocese, themed, “God’s Great task for the church, The Great Commandment”, holding at Saint Thomas parish Umuchu in Aguata local government area of the state.



He regretted what he described as “baby steps” being taken by federal government especially in the area of checking the high rate of insecurity and banditry which he noted is causing a nightmare to the people.


The Prelate who is also the National chairman of the Evangelical fellowship in the Anglican communion (EFAC) asked President Bola Tinubu who would soon be one year in office to seek ways of resetting the economy which had subjected Nigerians to sufferings.




He further commended Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for his all round development in key sectors without borrowing.


He extolled the governor for his road infrastructure, free education policy, employment of teachers, youth empowerment, erosion control, waste management and restoration of law and order across the state.



“We commended the governor for reclaiming public spaces through improved security of lives and property and urge him to continue to live up to his promise of deemphasizing church denomination in offering appointments,” he added.




The Bishop who doubles as the president of the synod appreciated the council of knights for their support to evangelism and urged the faithful to always see evangelism as a collective responsibility.


He had earlier congratulated the chancellor of the Diocese, Justice Peter Obiora on his appointment as Justice of the appellate court.


Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Alexander Ibezim, Bishop of Amichi, Rt Rev Ephraim Ikeakor, his Ogbaru Diocese counterpart, Rt Rev Prosper Amah described the Synod theme as apt, especially at a time many faithful were finding it difficult to obey God’s commandments which they noted were prerequisite for making heaven.



President of Aguata Diocesan Council of Knights, Sir Obiora Okeke, that of ladies president, Lady Gloria Ezezika and a synod delegate described the Bishop’s charge as spiritual reawakening.


They promised to domesticate the knowledge garnered to their various churches and places of work, while Ven. David Obiagbaoso seconded the motion for the adoption of the Bishop’s address.


The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Somtochukwu Udeze and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Commerce, Sir Chinedu Ike graced the synod.


Over 20 Bishops including the former Archbishop of Niger province, Most Reverend Godwin Okpala, President Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry, Mrs Chinyere Ezeofor, President of Laity Council, Sir Felix Chinedu, former President General, Joint Council of Knights church of Nigeria, Sir Isaiah Ezezika and Director of Media and communication Mr Abuchi Nwozor were all in attendance.
