Anambra: We’re ready to take over power from APGA – PDP vows

Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra state, Engr Chigozie Igwe on Saturday said there is no more factions in the party in the state.

He said party leadership had reached out to all existing factions and they have collapsed their structures into one umbrella.

The party had been enmeshed in decades of leadership crisis starting from regime of former Governor, Dr Chris Ngige that produced two factional structures of self styled godfathers Chief Chris Uba and that of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.

During last governorship primary election of the party the emergence of Mr Valentine Ozigbo deepened the crisis as most party members worked against his candidacy.

But Saturday’s rally witnessed the collapse of the Ozigbo faction into the party ahead of the 2025 governorship election in the state.

Addressing party faithful, Igwe assured the party’s readiness to contest the 2025 governorship election and wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

“We are set for the coming governorship election in Anambra state and I can assure you that we are going back to the government house Awka” he said.

The PDP boss also disclosed that the party would soon start registration/capturing of new and old members.

Also speaking, former Minister of Women Affairs and National Woman Leader of People’s Democratic Party PDP Iyom Josephine Aneineh attributed the party’s problems in the State to leadership tussle.

Aneineh who spoke at the sideline of the Party’s mini rally said factionalisation and personalisation of the party created problems for the party.

“These leaders confused the followers who follow them. Party members follow different and seperate persons. When these leaders fight the grassroots will suffer.

“Today, we have understood the principle of PDP. PDP belongs to the masses and not to anybody. 20 years after, I hope that PDP has learnt its lessions” she said.
