Court remands man, fiancée for stealing wedding gifts in Kano
A Kano State Shari’a Court has remanded one Nura Musbahu and his fiancée, Fatima Lawal, for stealing kayan lefe (wedding gift), belonging to his sister, Aisha.
Report says that Kayan lefe is a Hausa tradition of buying expensive gift items by a groom for his bride and formally presenting it to her by his family.
The love birds were dragged to the court sitting at Rijiyar Lemo in Fagge LGA by Aisha and were charged for stealing and accepting stolen items.
When the court officer, Usman Idris Shu’aibu Dala read the charges to them, Musbahu pleaded guilty.
His fiancée, however, admitted that only two items were given to her, which she presented to the court.
Khadi Danbaba thereafter ordered their remand at a correctional centre until June 5, 2024, and directed that their parents appear before the court.
