France set for hung parliament as leftist alliance leads early polls
Early projections forecast a socialist alliance winning between 172 and 215 seats out of a total of 577 in the second round of voting in France's elections on Sunday evening, with the first official results are expected by late Sunday.
Marine Le Pen's National Rally (RN) had been expected to triumph, but looks set to come in third with 115-155 seats behind Emmanuel Macron's centrist alliance (150-180 seats).
Tactical withdrawals of over 200 anti-RN candidates from three-way races are believed to have cut Le Pen's chances of gaining control.
