How I Was Diagnosed With Kidney Disease 2 Months After Marriage - Ex-Banker

She exuded confidence when she was employed in the bank, she envisaged achieving her life-long dreams and with just the little money she was earning, Egbeyemi saved in anticipation not only to develop herself further educationally but also to make herself comfortable in life.

Comparing her photo from 14 years ago, when she was employed at a major commercial bank, with her current appearance, it is clear that Mrs. Kehinde Egbeyemi appears to be facing significant health challenges that require immediate attention.

She exuded confidence when she was employed in the bank, she envisaged achieving her life-long dreams and with just the little money she was earning, Egbeyemi saved in anticipation not only to develop herself further educationally but also to make herself comfortable in life.

When she got married in 2008, like most women would pray and hope to start their families, Egbeyemi looked forward to that. She had planned how she would run her life according to her reach. She never imagined that a serious health challenge was lurking around the corner.

Just two months after the marriage, the banker was diagnosed with kidney disease! Her world shattered but she didn’t take chances to that, as she immediately applied to be permitted to undergo treatment. The treatment would later take her six months out of her work schedule.

And because of the assurance from a doctor that the kidney was merely infected and could be easily treated, Egbeyemi returned to work.

When it could not get better, Egbeyemi underwent a kidney biopsy, the removal of a small piece of kidney tissue for examination. This kept her in hospital for six months. In the seventh month, she resumed her duty post, believing that it was all over unknown to her that the worst was coming. Two years later, Mrs Kehinde Egbeyemi’s kidney trouble bounced back and her employer sacked her! Ever since then, she has been in and out of hospital.

“I worked in the bank before but not doing anything now due to my health condition. It all started in 2008 but it was in 2010 that I got to know that I have a kidney problem but it was not that bad. The doctor told me that the kidney was not that bad; it was just an infection, and we could treat it. They never told me that this thing was hypertension, they just gave me drugs,” she recalled her journey to her present health state

Now, the 48-year-old native of Ifo Local Government Area, in Ogun State and wife of a private school teacher, is battling chronic kidney disease. Her two kidneys have failed and she has lost all she worked and saved for in her over ten years of banking job just to this disease. Her family has spent all they have just on this problem.

At the moment, Egbeyemi undergoes two dialysis sessions weekly with each gulping almost N150,000. This means she spends almost N300,000 every week on dialysis.

“I undergo dialysis every week because I don’t urinate and dialysis is the means of passing urine and the waste of the body out.

Since 2019, I stopped going to the toilet. Since then I have been doing dialysis two times in every week, that is every three days.

“It was in 2017 that the kidney started failing.

"The two kidneys have failed and we are looking towards doing a transplant. I have been on dialysis for six and a half years now.

"Doctors have said a transplant is required. And the total transplant requires N22,408 million,” she struggled to say.

Egbeyemi has donors for transplant but to carry out a successful kidney transplant on her, doctors have said she needs N22.408 million. To this end, she is crying out to the public for financial assistance.

Public spirited individuals and corporate organisations wishing to donate money to her should pay to:
