Israel to start drafting ultra-Orthodox Jews next month
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and the IDF will issue draft orders to ultra-Orthodox Jews on a massive scale next month. The IDF can immediately integrate around 3,000 Haredim in addition to the 1,800 already serving, with over 60,000 recruits potentially in play.
This follows the High Court of Justice's June 25 order for a universal draft and the freezing of funds to non-compliant Haredi institutions, after decades of the ultra-Orthodox community enjoying immunity from military conscription.
