One Person Dead, Many Injured As Nine-Storey Building Collapses
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident happened on Saturday, adding that the victim, who was operating a cement mixer, was struck by falling walls from the ninth floor.
Part of a nine-storey building under construction in Asaba, Delta State, has collapsed, resulting in one death and multiple injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident happened on Saturday, adding that the victim, who was operating a cement mixer, was struck by falling walls from the ninth floor.
Residents have raised concerns about the construction’s quality and whether necessary approvals were secured.
The Delta State government has since sealed the site and ordered an investigation into the incident.
Michael Anoka, the Commissioner for Urban Renewal, confirmed the investigation and promised that the findings would be made public.
This collapse adds to Nigeria’s ongoing issues with building failures.
Earlier this week, a similar collapse in Lagos resulted in five deaths, and a previous incident in Plateau State killed numerous students.
Experts attribute the frequent collapses to poor materials, unprofessional practices, and insufficient oversight.
