Embrace liberated mentality – NUJ tells Ndigbo
Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), South East Zone has encouraged people of the South-East to move past the civil war, fight corruption and embrace liberated mentality.
The body also urged the regional leadership to develop a comprehensive blueprint to enhance the region’s economy.
In a communique issued by Vice President, Zone C (South East) Emmanuel Ifesinachi and Secretary, Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku shortly after a Development Summit, themed, “South East: Towards a Robust Economic Blueprint for Sustainable Development”, NUJ emphasised the need for economic security for journalists to promote ethical practices.
The Summit featured topical paper presentations by industry operators, scholars and representatives of state government, addressed how to foster active private sector participation and create an enabling environment for businesses and investors to thrive in the region.
It also addressed how to promote synergy among South East states through the South East Development Commission to enhance security, transportation, energy, and economic diversification.
The Summit recognised the media’s crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s economic and societal order, and acknowledge the challenges they face, including poor working conditions, self-censorship, and corruption.
While commending the media for their role in promoting good governance and holding leaders accountable, despite challenges, it urged them to sensitize the public on critical regional issues, promote accountability in governance, highlight regional challenges and ensure the South East Development Commission’s accountability.
