Soludo hails LG boss for renovating classrooms and donating 300 desks
Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has commended Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Amaka Obi for the renovation of 5 classroom blocks at Central School, Enuogwugwu in Ojoto community.
The governor also praised her for the donation of 300 desks to over 17 schools under her council area, saying the gesture was in line with his Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP) initiative.
Speaking through Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh on Tuesday during the commissioning of the classroom blocks and distribution of the desks to the benefitting schools, Soludo reiterated his commitment to providing quality and affordable education to people of the state.
He thanked the people of the community for supporting his government, urging the beneficiaries to take ownership of the facilities by ensuring their regular maintenance, just as he called for more collaboration from spirited individuals.
“The renovation of the dilapidated classrooms is just a tip of the iceberg. My administration is ready to build more schools as long as communities are willing to provide lands for government,” he said.
Earlier, the TC Chairman said the donation followed her oversight visit where she observed absence of desks in the classrooms in the different schools.
She said the desks were built in collaboration with Lady Ojukwu Isiani, Chief Chigozie Ezeudoka, Sir Kingsley Udechukwu, reassuring her administration’s preparedness towards training and retraining of teachers in her area to confirm with global standards.
Also speaking, Headmistress of the school, Amb. Edith Anigbogu described the renovation of the classrooms as answered prayers, thanking the Council boss for her intervention.
She however listed other challenges being faced by the school to include paucity of teachers, ineequiped library, computer and science laboratory, perimeter fencing with gates, chairs, desks and tables, among others.
Traditional ruler of Ojoto, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu lamented dearth of teachers in the school, calling on government to deploy more teachers to assist the only two government employed teachers in the school.
Represented by Rommy Anyisia, the monarch thanked those behind the renovation of the classrooms, describing the gesture as worthy of emulation.
