LG election not about victory but delivery – ACTDA boss

Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Ossy Onuko has expressed satisfaction over peaceful conduct of Saturday’s Local Government elections in Anambra State.

He commended the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), security agencies and other stakeholders for their contributions towards the success of the exercise.

Speaking with reporters at his Umudioka Awka ward 3, Onuko urged those who would eventually emerge victorious to ensure they provided leadership and values for the people at the grassroots.

He said, “The people are keen and enthusiastic to vote. I must commend ANSIEC Chairman and her team. The election so far has been free and fair.

“We’re happy and impressed with the voter turnout. There’s nothing like voter apathy or vote buying. The excited voters are not induced, but willing to stand under the sun since morning to exercise their franchise.

“I also commend the various political parties participating in the election, our own APGA, LP, PDP and others. You can see their agents here.

“For the aggrieved parties, it’s been an issue of dilemma. It’s a free world. Besides, they may not have the support of the masses and are not willing to test the waters because of the attendant shame as they already know the outcome.

“We’re hopeful that all the APGA candidates will emerge victorious and we know they will provide leadership after their victory.

“For us, it’s not about winning the election, but delivering the dividends of democracy and value to the people, just as our leader, Gov Chukwuma Soludo has been doing since assumption of office.

“I also advise them to accommodate the opponents because we’re in democracy and we must embrace each other.”

Traditional Ruler of Okpuno and Deputy Chairman, Anambra state Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Sunday Okafor expressed satisfaction over the entire process.

He applauded the security agencies for maintenance of peace and order before, during and after the exercise.

He however expressed concerns over late arrival of materials in his ward, but said he was happy he was able to cast his votes eventually.
