LG poll: Electoral officials dare ANSIEC, arrive late to polling centers
Late arrival of officials and materials of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) may likely mar the outcome of Saturday’s Local Government elections in the state.
Officials of the Commission were said to have failed to arrive at the stipulated time at polling units across the state.
ANSIEC had earlier assured that era of late arrival of election materials and officers were over.
The commission also announced that voting would commence at 8 am and conclude at 4 pm.
But our correspondent who visited some polling units, includimg Aroma Ward Three, Odoagba Ward One, Unizik Junction Polling Unit, observed virtually no signs of elections in the areas. Voters were trickling in.
According to him, officials had not arrived at most polling units before 9am.
“At Ukwu Orji Government House, police officers were present, but ANSIEC ad-hoc staff had not arrived by 9 am.
“In Iyiowa/Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area, no ANSIEC ad-hoc staff, security personnel, or electoral materials have arrived. Only one APGA party agents are present,” he said.
The delayed commencement and apparent voter apathy, with many engaging in monthly sanitation and business activities was clear demonstration of what could be described as aborted exercise.
