Men of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have raided a gun-making factory run by a father and his sons, where various firearms are manufactured and sold to criminal elements both within and outside the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph O. Eribo, revealed this during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, on Monday.
The factory was discovered following credible intelligence received by the command.
Police operatives acted quickly, raiding the facility and arresting one suspect, although others managed to escape.
CP Eribo confirmed the arrest of David Nse Emmanuel, while his father, Akpan Nse Emmanuel, and his brothers, who were also involved in the operation, fled the scene.
Items seized during the raid included seven newly made single-barrel guns, five double-barrel guns, one special steel double-trigger pistol, one broken single-barrel gun, a trigger-handle walking stick knife, and numerous iron pipes used in gun barrel construction.
Eribo assured the public that efforts are underway to capture the fleeing suspects and to track down individuals who may have purchased or ordered firearms from the factory.
