Akwa Okuko, Eke Hit , Over 30 Native Doctors Still in Anambra Government Custody – Mefor

The Anambra State government has confirmed that all arrested native doctors, including Akwa Okuko Tiwalu Aki, Eke Hit, Onye-Eze Jesus, and others, remain in its custody as investigations continue.

The Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), addressing speculations on social media that some of the native doctors had been released.

Dr Mefor clarified that his office had not issued any press statement regarding the social media reports listing names of those still in custody or any planned court arraignment.

He affirmed that over thirty arrested native doctors are still in detention, adding that those found culpable at the end of the investigation would be charged to court.

The commissioner highlighted that charms such as Oke-ite, Awele, Ibobo, and Odeshi are prohibited under the new Anambra Homeland Security Law, which also targets those who prepare them.

Dr Mefor reiterated that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is not against traditional worship but is committed to eliminating criminal practices and their enablers to foster a safer society.
