Stop demonising Homeland Security Law, we won’t outlaw traditional worship – Anambra govt assures

Anambra State government has chastised those demonising and misrepresenting the new Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025 as being against traditional worship, describing it as essential component of Igbo traditional religion and culture.

It restated that the new law was designed to combat crime and criminality committed by quacks and evil native doctors, particularly those who pervert and alter the core values of the Igbo society, teaching the acquisition of wealth without work, and deceiving younger generation and unwary members of society.

Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, in a statement said the directives were part of the fallout from the second meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC).

He said the Council gave Operation Udo Ga-Achi, the state’s new security intervention, a high rating and urged it not to relent.

Mefor further disclosed that the sum of N160million was approved for the acquisition of five mining assets in addition to the earlier assets acquired by the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company.

The statement reads in part, “While reviewing the impact of the new Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025, the Council chastised those demonising and misrepresenting the new law as being against traditional worship, noting that it is an essential component of Igbo traditional religion and culture.

“The Council restated that the new law was designed to combat crime and criminality committed by quacks and evil native doctors, particularly those who pervert and alter the core values of the Igbo society, those who promote and teach the acquisition of wealth without work, and those who deceive the younger generation and unwary members of society.

“The Council further reaffirmed that the State Government has not and will not outlaw traditional worship. The Council further called for moral rearmament and social re-engineering to restore the lost values of the society and ensure a healthy future for the state.

“The beneficiaries of the “1Youth, 2Skills” Scheme during the past two years, who came together to freely train 1,000 additional youths, were thanked by the Council, observing that their gesture marked the beginning of a new era and was exceptional.

“N160m was approved for the acquisition of five mining assets in addition to the earlier assets acquired by the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company. These include:

Pharmaceutical Grade Kaolin Asset

Gravel Pack Asset

Glass Sand Asset

Sand Quarry

Ceramic Kaolin Asset.

“The acquisition of these Assets will expand the State’s involvement in the Solid Minerals Development Sector in Anambra State.”
