The Onitsha South LG Council Boss, Hon Emeka Orji during his inspection tour with his team on 24th August 2023 visited the road side Chicken Market (Ọgbọ ọkụkọ) at Iweka road opposite Ochanja Central Market Onitsha after the final demand notice, reminding them of the previous demand notice to vacate the area they are occupying to a more comfortable place provided for them by Anambra State Government and Onitsha South Local Government big enough to accommodate all of them.
Also reminding them of their plea and their agreement with him, that they’ve in several occasions made a request for the government to extend the time given to them to enable them prepare very well before moving to the new site and that they promised to move to the site before the third week of August 2023 which was accepted and granted and that the deadline has already gone.
The Onitsha South Local Government Council Authorities gave the traders notice to quit the place without further delay for disobeying the government order and sealed the place.
The road side chicken traders were asked to vacate the said area and move to the new site provided by the government at Akunnia Njote, Woliwo layout Fegge Onitsha behind Ochanja Central Market due to lack of space and comfort, obstruction of the major road leading to main market and Upper Iweka, and pollution of environment etc.
